Gyeongbokgung Palace is the most famous and the largest royal palace in Seoul. It was built in 1395 as the main palace of the Joseon dynasty.

Gyeongbokgung Palace is located in Jongno-gu, in the center of Seoul. It was the first and largest of the five grand palaces built by the Joseon dynasty.

How to Get to Gyeongbokgung Palace (Subway Guide)
The subway is the easiest way to get there.
- Station: Gyeongbokgung Station
- Line: Line 3 (Orange Line)
- Exit: Exit 5 (directly connected to the palace)

Wear a Hanbok and Enter for Free
One of the best experiences at Gyeongbokgung is wearing a hanbok, the Korean traditional dress.
If you wear a hanbok, you can enter the palace for FREE. The palace and the hanbok make a perfect photo together.
Where to Rent
There are many hanbok rental shops right around the palace. Most of them are near Gyeongbokgung Station and along the streets by the palace entrance.
How Much Does It Cost?
Prices are different at each shop, but in general:
- 2-hour rental: around 15,000–25,000 won
- 4-hour rental: around 25,000–35,000 won
- Full-day rental: around 30,000–50,000 won
Special or royal-style hanbok can cost a little more.

1. Watch the Royal Guard Ceremony
The Royal Guard Changing Ceremony takes place at the main gate. Guards wear colorful traditional clothes and play old instruments. It is a great chance to see Korean history come alive.
2. Walk Around the Palace Grounds
The palace is very large, with many halls and gardens. Take your time to walk slowly and enjoy the peaceful mood.
3. Visit the Museums
Inside the palace, there are two museums. The National Palace Museum and the National Folk Museum show Korean royal and daily life history.
