Seoraksan Mountain: Korea’s Most Beautiful National Park

Seoraksan is one of the most beautiful mountains in Korea.

It is located in Gangwon-do, on the east side of the country.

What Is Seoraksan?

Seoraksan is a national park in Gangwon-do, near the city of Sokcho. It is one of the highest mountains in Korea.

The park has beautiful nature in every season:

How to Get to Seoraksan (From Seoul)

By Bus (Recommended)

The easiest way is by bus to Sokcho.

  • From: Seoul Express Bus Terminal or Dong Seoul Terminal
  • To: Sokcho Bus Terminal
  • Time: About 2.5 hours

Then, from Sokcho Bus Terminal, take local Bus 7 or 7-1 to Seorak-dong. This drops you off near the park entrance and the cable car.

By Train

Sokcho does not have a train station.

If you prefer the train, you can take a KTX to Gangneung, but it is farther away. For most travelers, the bus is easier and more direct.

By Car

You can also drive from Seoul (about 2.5 hours).

Parking at Seoraksan costs around 5,000 won for a small car (high season).

What Can You Do at Seoraksan?

1. Ride the Cable Car to Gwongeumseong

The Seoraksan cable car is the highlight for many visitors.

  • To: Gwongeumseong Fortress (700 m above sea level)
  • Time: About 10 minutes up
  • Ticket: Around 16,000 won (round trip, adult)

From the top, you can walk a little more to enjoy amazing views.

You can see the rocky peaks, the valleys, and even the sea far away.

2. Visit Sinheungsa Temple

Near the park entrance is Sinheungsa, a beautiful old Buddhist temple.

In front of the temple, there is a giant bronze Buddha statue.

3. Enjoy Makgeolli and Jeon

After walking, try some Korean mountain food. Near the park, there are restaurants and stalls selling makgeolli (rice wine) and jeon (Korean pancake).

4. Walk the Easy Trails

You do not have to climb to the top.

There are easy walking paths near the entrance, the temple, and the valleys.
